About us
The Health Bridge Alliance Against Breast Cancer (Egészség Hídja Összefogás a Mellrák Ellen Egyesület) was established in 2002 with the mission to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early diagnosis. Breast cancer is the second highest cause of female mortality, affecting every eighth to ninth woman in Hungary, and of these, 25-30% will have metastasis. The Alliance reaches out to both healthy and ill women and brings science closer to those affected by breast cancer; it organizes events for information sharing and advocates for the rights of patients; and the Alliance provides practical help for patients to get second opinions and much-needed assistance for women who find themselves stuck in the health-care system.
The title Bridge Alliance refers to the association’s flagship campaign in October, during which Budapest’s iconic Chain Bridge is lit pink and thousands of women cross it to demonstrate their solidarity with those fighting the disease.
The public-benefit Bridge Alliance Association serves as an umbrella for several breast organizations and individuals committed to the fight against breast cancer and is a member of the Women’s League.
